NFF Sets Unbelievable AFCON Target For Eagles

The Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has set what it describes as a “realistic” target for the Super Eagles ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, following a meeting with head coach Eric Chelle on Monday in Abuja.

‎The three time African Cup of Nations champion, Nigeria has been placed in Group C alongside Tunisia, Tanzania and Uganda, and will begin their campaign on December 23 against Tanzania.

‎According to the statement uncovered by the officials that were present at the meeting, the committee has set a target of a semi-final finish as the minimum expectation for Chelle and his squad.

‎A committee member revealed; “we’re not the favourites to win the AFCON,” . “The favourites will be hosts Morocco, Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire. So, as always, we have set a realistic target of reaching the semi-final for coach Eric Chelle and the Super Eagles.”

‎Another technical committee member of the Nigerian Football Federation also emphasised that the Super Eagles is undergoing a rebuilding process following the failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

‎”All we want is to get to the semi-final of the competition which will be good for us, because it’s actually a rebuilding process,” he said. “This target is the same as it was set for the 2023 AFCON and we ended up reaching the final.

‎”We believe that this target can happen again, but the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) don’t want to put the team under too much pressure, especially after the World Cup setback.”
