Bayelsa Reaffirms Strong Partnership with FRSC to Boost Road Safety

The Bayelsa State Government has restated its commitment to deepening collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) as part of efforts to enhance road safety and minimise accidents across the state.

In a post shared on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Moses Teibowei, revealed this while receiving the newly deployed Sector Commander of the FRSC, Bayelsa State Command, Corps Commander Abosi Prince, who paid him a courtesy visit in Yenagoa.

Teibowei said the current administration has prioritised the delivery of modern road infrastructure built to global safety standards, noting that road signage remains a critical component of every government project aimed at guiding commuters and improving overall safety.

He described the FRSC as a “valuable partner in progress”, commending the Corps for its consistent interventions in promoting responsible driving and reducing crashes.

The Commissioner stated that the Ministry is open to strengthening collaboration with the FRSC through joint interface sessions, road audits, and technical advisory engagements involving professional engineers on ongoing and completed projects.

He furthered acknowledged the Corps’ role in signage production and assured continued cooperation to ensure adequate signage is deployed across strategic locations in the state.

Also, highlighting the government’s ongoing road development drive, Teibowei said Governor Douye Diri is setting a benchmark for future administrations.

He listed key projects such as the Yenagoa–Oporoma Road, Glory Drive Phase 3, Agbura/Oxbow Lake Road, several dual carriageways in the New Yenagoa City GRA, and the East–West–Kalama Road.

In addition, he noted that the rehabilitation of failed sections of existing roads is already underway.

Earlier, Corps Commander Abosi Prince said the visit was intended to renew and strengthen the FRSC’s safety partnership with the Ministry.

He explained that one of the Corps’ statutory duties is to offer safety recommendations to government and contractors at all stages of road construction.

Prince also highlighted FRSC’s responsibility in signage production and installation, and called for the construction of a roundabout at the intersection linking Glory Drive Phases 2 and 3 along the Airport Road to improve traffic flow and reduce risks in the area.
