CAF Appoints Senegalese Referee For Rivers United Game


‎A Senegalese, Issa Sy, has been named by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as the center referee for the high-profile CAF Champions League Group Stage clash between Rivers United and Moroccan heavyweights RS Berkane.

‎The Rivers United’s encounter is slated to take place on Friday at the Goodwill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, where both Rivers United and the Moroccan club will be looking to strengthen their positions early in the competition.

‎The pride of Rivers entered the fixture with much expectations to prove after a very disappointing outing last weekend, losing to CAFCL reigning champions Pyramids by 3-0.

‎However, as Finidi George’s men will return to action in the CAF Champions League against RSB Berkane at home on Friday, Rivers United knows that maximum points in Uyo could significantly boost their chances of progressing from the group.

‎The tournament’s fixtures have Finidi George-led side fixed in the Group B, where they have phenomenal teams like Pyramids FC, RSB Berkane, and Power Dynamos to play.

‎Notwithstanding, Rivers United are the first Nigerian club to reach the group stage of the competition since Lobi Stars achieved the feat in the 2018/19 season.

‎RS Berkane also are reportedly ready to the clash against the Port Harcourt team, as the report claimed they have finalized its travel arrangements to Nigeria for their upcoming match against Rivers United in the second round of the CAF Champions League group stage.

‎The Moroccan club, Berkane’s delegation is set to depart Oujda Angad Airport tomorrow morning, Wednesday, flying to Lagos Nigeria before continuing their journey to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
