NSITF Presents N75m to ECS Beneficiaries

The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has presented cheques totalling N75,840,194.73 to beneficiaries of the Employees Compensation Scheme (ECS) in Port Harcourt, reaffirming its commitment to supporting families affected by workplace accidents.

Managing Director and Chief Executive, Oluwaseun Faleye, handed over the largest cheque of N54,642,194.73 to the dependants of a late employee of Depthwize Nigeria Limited.

The staff member drowned on August 15, 2023, after a drilling rig collapsed. Faleye, while commiserating with the family, noted that although no amount can replace a lost life, the payment aims to provide comfort during their period of grief.

He disclosed that beyond the lump sum, the deceased’s dependants will receive monthly death benefits of N2,023,784.09, representing 90% of his salary, until the youngest child turns 21 in 2042.

A representative of Depthwize Nigeria Limited, Orela Okulue, praised NSITF for promptly supporting the family and easing the compensation process.

The NSITF team also visited Daewoo Nigeria Limited, where Faleye presented another cheque worth N13,197,077.34 to an employee who lost his left leg in a March 2022 automobile accident.

Responding, Daewoo’s General Manager, Akabo Clement Abrakasa, commended the Fund’s dedication, describing NSITF as a critical partner in safeguarding workers’ welfare and providing essential support in times of crisis.
