FG Debunks Rumors of Nationwide School Shutdown

The Federal Government (FG) has dismissed circulating reports alleging a directive for the nationwide closure of schools on Monday, November 24, 2025.

In a formal statement issued on Saturday, the Federal Ministry of Education described the reports making rounds on social media as “false and misleading”.

FG assured parents, students, and stakeholders that no such blanket order has been given.

The disclaimer, signed by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, clarified that the purported notice did not originate from the FG, any State Ministry of Education, or any recognised security agency.

FG urged the public to disregard the fake advisory and relies strictly on verified information from official channels.

“Any announcement, advisory, or notice coming from unofficial or unverified sources should be ignored and not shared.

“Members of the public are urged to always verify the authenticity of information before circulating it in order to curb the spread of misinformation”, FG said.

FG emphasised that authoritative communications regarding school safety and schedules will only come from the FG, state governments, or authorised security agencies. The confusion appears to stem from a legitimate but targeted directive issued on Friday.

The Port City News (TCPN) earlier reported that FG ordered the immediate closure of 41 Federal Unity Colleges located in high-risk security zones across the North-West, North-East, and North-Central regions.

That specific measure was taken to prevent security breaches following a recent spate of abductions in Niger and Kebbi States. However, the situation varies by state.

While there is no federal order closing all schools in the country: several state governments, including Kwara, Plateau, Katsina, and Niger, have independently directed school closures in their domains due to local security assessments.

Governor Agbu Kefas directed all public and private schools to deboard their students immediately to mitigate kidnapping risks.

FG maintained that schools outside the specific 41 listed Unity Colleges and those in states that have not declared a holiday are expected to operate as usual.
