Fubara Hails Goodluck Jonathan on 68th Birthday

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has extended warm birthday greetings to former President, Goodluck Jonathan. Jonathan turned 68 on today, November 20, 2025. Fubara greeted Tinubu in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi.

Fubara on behalf of his family, the government, and the people of Rivers State, showered praise on the former President for his exemplary leadership qualities and dedication to national service.

He eulogised Jonathan’s remarkable achievements and contributions to the nation’s development, particularly during his tenure as President.

Fubara highlighted Jonathan’s consistent commitment to key national values, noting that his dedication to “democracy, peace, unity and stability has earned him respect and global admiration.”

He further commended the former leader’s patriotic and selfless service, which he said has been exemplary not only to Nigeria but also to Africa and the world at large.

The governor wished the former President continued good health, a sound mind, and many more years of fruitful living to sustain his service to humanity, praying for continued divine inspiration, wisdom, and dedication to public service.

Jonathan was born on 20 November 1957 in Ogbia to a Christian Ijaw family of canoe makers in Otuoke, Bayelsa State.

His father, Lawrence Ebele Jonathan, was a canoe maker and his mother, Eunice Ayi Ebele Jonathan, was a retired farmer. He attended a Christian primary and secondary school.

Jonathan received a bachelor’s degree in zoology (second-class honours), a master’s degree in hydrobiology and fisheries biology; and a doctorate in zoology from the University of Port Harcourt.

During his time at the university, he taught at Rivers State College of Education from 1983 to 1993.
