Burna Boy Reveals He Is Fighting “Secret Battles” Amid Fan Backlash

Internationally acclaimed and Grammy-award-winning Nigerian artist, Damini Ogulu, known globally as Burna Boy, has revealed he is grappling with confidential personal struggles.

The musician made this known while clapping back at the intense criticism that followed his recent observations about his audience. The debate began after the Afrofusion star was perceived as stating he never pleaded for his fanbase and would prefer only rich fans.

Responding to the negative feedback via his Instagram story, the vocalist for the popular song insisted his comment was a jest made in a private moment with his team, which was subsequently taken out of context and misconstrued by the public.

He emphasized that, although he is engaged in his own private wars, he has no interest in seeking sympathy or assistance, and simply asked to be given space. The artist also added his voice to the growing international calls for peace, advocating for an end to the severe insecurity and terrorism affecting Nigeria, Congo, and Sudan.

Addressing the fan controversy, Burna Boy said, “I was joking around with my band about something else, not this situation and y’all have spun it as usual saying ‘Burna Boy doesn’t love his fans.’”

He concluded his message with a plea for personal space and a statement on global conflicts, adding, “If you hate me so much either kilI me or leave me alone. I’m fighting my own battles and I never come out here to look for pity or help. I love who loves me and respect who respects me. Free Sudan, free Congo, free Nigeria”
