President Bola Tinubu has suspended his planned trip to South Africa for the G20 Leaders’ Summit to receive detailed security updates on the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the recent attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President also ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area. He further directed the police to pursue and apprehend the attackers responsible for the Kwara incident, following a request from the state governor.
Presidency sources told our correspondent that Tinubu chose to delay his foreign engagements to receive comprehensive briefings from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, and from security agencies already probing the two incidents. The President was initially expected to depart Abuja today for the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa, before proceeding to Angola for the 7th AU-EU Summit.

Onanuga explained that Tinubu’s decision was prompted by the disturbing reports of worsening insecurity in both states. “He now awaits reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who paid a sympathy visit to Kebbi on his behalf, as well as reports from the police and the Department of State Services regarding the attack in Kwara,” he said.
Tinubu emphasised that the safety of citizens remains his top priority as security agencies intensify efforts to rescue the abducted victims and restore calm in the affected communities.
