Bayelsa Strengthens Primary Healthcare After Survey Validation

Bayelsa State has taken another step toward improving the quality of primary healthcare delivery as stakeholders gathered in Yenagoa to validate findings from a baseline survey conducted across eight Primary HealthCare (PHC) centres in the state.

This was conveyed in a post shared on Bayelsa State Ministry of Information, Orientation and Strategy Facebook page on Wednesday.

The validation meeting, convened by the Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) in collaboration with the Bayelsa Non-Governmental Organisations Forum (BANGOF)-is part of ongoing efforts to access Federal Government funds to support community-level health development projects.

Participants at the high-level session included representatives of the public health sector, the judiciary, civil society organisations, and the media.

They reviewed preliminary findings that link stronger health governance to national efforts aimed to curb illicit financial flows and improve accountability in the use of recovered assets and public resources.

The baseline survey assessed infrastructure conditions, service quality, workforce capacity, and funding mechanisms within the selected PHC facilities.

Stakeholders also examined gaps in financial and administrative systems that could leave health institutions vulnerable to mismanagement, leakages, or inefficiencies.

Facilitators emphasised that reliable data remains crucial for guiding reforms, strengthening budget planning, and ensuring that resources allocated to the health sector are transparently and effectively utilised.

They noted that effective tracking of resources helps guarantee that recovered public funds- particularly those tied to forfeited assets-are redirected to improve essential services for citizens.

BANGOF received commendation for its comprehensive data-gathering efforts across all eight Local Government Areas, providing the evidence needed for decision-making and policy interventions.

The meeting ended with a collective commitment to strengthening monitoring systems, improving accountability frameworks at both community and state levels, and ensuring that every accessed fund meaningfully enhances healthcare infrastructure and service delivery across Bayelsa’s primary health centres.
