Rivers state governor Sir Similaiyi Fubara says his administration is committed to supporting grassroots sports development especially the game of golf noting that it will provide the basic support required to ensure more participation in the sport so as to popularize the golf game
Governor Fubara made the promise at the closing ceremony of the sixth edition of CIO golf championship sponsored by Chief executive officer of Keves Global Limited
The governor also promised to revamp and revive the governor’s cup golf championship from the state of Comatose.

He however frowned at those remarketing Rivers state by circulating false news in the media due to their selfish political interest, arguing that Rivers state is very peaceful and a safe haven for investors.
Governor Fubara exchanging pleasantries with Sponsor of CIO Chief Ikenna Okafor at the event explained that the huge number of golfers who traveled from other parts of Africa to participate in the CIO golf competition indicates that Rivers state is in tranquility and called on the participants in the tourney to narrate their experience and wonderful moments and time they had in Porthacourt to their friends when they return back to their various climes.
The governor also praised the sponsor of the tournament Chief Ikenna Okafor for his noble gesture towards the development of golf in Nigeria and Africa at large which he said will fast track the growth of the sport in Rivers state
