The captain of Nigeria’s men’s national football team, the Super Eagles, William Troost-Ekong, has confirmed that all outstanding bonuses and allowances owed to the team by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have been fully paid.
The Port City News (TPCN) reported that the team boycotted training on Tuesday in Morocco ahead of their crucial World Cup play-off qualifier against Gabon.
The report went viral, sparking allegations that the team had made speculative financial demands—claims Troost-Ekong refuted on Wednesday via his official X page.
Announcing that the issue had been resolved, the Al-Kholood centre-back revealed that all outstanding payments had been cleared, allowing the players to focus on Thursday’s vital 2026 FIFA World Cup CAF qualifier against Gabon.

“Issue resolved. Outstanding financials cleared and on ground. The team is united and focused as before on representing Nigeria with our maximum for the games ahead!” the former Watford defender wrote on X.
While confirming receipt of the allowances, the 32-year-old, however, did not disclose whether the team trained on Wednesday in preparation for the all-important fixture.
The World Cup qualifying match against Gabon is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. on Thursday in Rabat, Morocco.
The winner will advance to the play-off final to face either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo.
