Nigeria’s U20 women’s team have clinched their first-ever WAFU B U20 Girls’ Cup title. The Falconets defeated Ghana’s Black Princesses 3–0 at the Stade Omnisports d’Adjohoun on Tuesday morning to secure the historic victory.
Goals from Janet Akekoromowei, Alaba Olabiyi, and Ramotalahi Kareem sealed the win and ensured a clean sheet for Nigeria.
The result marked a sweet revenge for the Falconets, who had lost to Ghana on penalties in the final of the tournament’s inaugural edition two years ago.
With this win, Nigeria amassed nine points from three matches, confirming their dominance in the regional competition.

Their final fixture against hosts Benin Republic on Wednesday now stands as a mere formality.
Ghana, who had needed a win to keep slim hopes of retaining their title after a 2–0 victory over Benin on Monday, could not withstand Nigeria’s intensity and finished the tournament with six points from four games.
Head coach Moses Aduku has now shifted focus to the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Senegal, scheduled for February next year.
For now, however, the Falconets can revel in the glory of being crowned West Africa’s best.
The team began their 2025 WAFU B U20 Girls’ Cup campaign on 8 November in the regional competition, which runs from 7 to 12 November.
The tournament featured only three nations – Nigeria, Ghana, and hosts Benin – following the late withdrawal of Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.
