Rivers United Beats Khun Khalifat

Not minding the strange land, or the reaction of the home team fans, Rivers United defeated Kun Khalifat 1-0 in Owerri to secure fourth place on the league table. The victory serves as Finidi George second away win of the season.

‎’The Pride of Rivers’ climbed to fourth position on the NPFL table following their tremendous  hard-fought 1-0 away victory over Kun Khalifat in Owerri. Maclyn Biokpo scored the decisive goal for Finidi George’s men 11 minutes from time.

‎In other news Remo Stars have returned to winning ways in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after staging a late comeback to defeat El-Kanemi Warriors 2-1 at home on Monday.

‎From a few summary of the game, it is stated that Daniel Ogunmodede’s side came into the encounter on the back of three consecutive losses to Katsina United, Kwara United, and Nasarawa United respectively, but they showed resilience to end their poor run in dramatic fashion.

‎In spite of the fact that the away team, El-Kanemi Warriors took the lead two minutes before the hour mark through Jonas Emmanuel, silencing the home fans in Ikenne. However, Remo Stars stood on the solid ground never to lose hope, refused to give up and pushed relentlessly for an equalizer.

‎The home fans’ hope was raised and fortunately for them, the effort paid off when Victor Mbaoma converted from the penalty spot in the 88th minute to level the score. Before the end of the match, Michael Ibe, a former Abia Warriors striker sealed all three points for the hosts with a composed finish.

‎That notwithstanding, other teams like Plateau United continued their solid home form at the New Jos Stadium, with a narrow 1-0 win against Bendel Insurance. the ‘super’ Saka Gafar netted the only goal of the game to hand Plateau United the maximum points.

‎However, it will also be tremendous to point out that Bendel Insurance amongst other NPFL teams, are still winless under new manager Kennedy Boboye, piling pressure on the technical bench as the Benin Arsenal search for stability.
