JAMB Extends Public University Admissions Deadline

JAMB

The deadline for 2025 admissions into the public universities has been postponed from October 31 to November 17, 2025.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced the extension in a statement posted on its X page on Monday.

JAMB noted that the extension was due to emerging circumstances that necessitated providing institutions with additional time to finalise their admission processes.

The board noted that the initial deadline was set during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Alausa, on July 18, 2025.

JAMB reveals two reasons for granting the extension.

One was an appeal lodged by the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU), while the second was the recent accreditation of new academic programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

According to JAMB, the AVCNU’s appeal stemmed from disruptions caused by a court order that temporarily held up the 2025/2026 admission list.

That order was only lifted on October 28, 2025, delaying the universities’ ability to proceed, said JAMB.

Furthermore, in a move to expand access in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the NUC released a list on October 29, 2025, accrediting 229 new programmes across 37 universities.

Admissions into these newly accredited courses are just now being scheduled, requiring more time.

JAMB commended the public universities for their cooperation in meeting the initial timeline but emphasised that the extension is intended to ensure fairness and inclusivity across the institutions.

The board stressed that the new date of November 17, 2025, is final and must be strictly adhered to, reaffirming its commitment to a transparent, credible admission process.
