Organisation Unveils Port Harcourt’s First Free Ambulance Service

Careone

CareOne Digital Hospitals has launched Port Harcourt’s first-ever free emergency ambulance service to provide life-saving medical assistance to patients without the barriers of cost or delay.

In a report shared recently, the Project Director, Dr. Segun Ebitanmi, announced the initiative as part of the organisation’s commitment to making healthcare more accessible and responsive in emergency situations.

“Our goal is to ensure patients get medical care quickly, safely, and without worrying about payment first. Every second counts in an emergency,” he said.

The 24-hour ambulance service, which operates under CareOne’s ongoing transformation of Rehoboth Specialist Hospital, is fully GPS-enabled and free of charge. It is designed to address one of the most critical gaps in Nigeria’s healthcare system the lack of affordable and timely emergency transport.

According to Dr. Ebitanmi, the service includes a dedicated hotline, trained paramedics, and a modern digital dispatch centre equipped with real-time tracking tools such as GPS and what3words technology. This ensures rapid response, even in densely populated or hard-to-reach areas.

“Each ambulance is fully equipped and staffed with trained paramedics so that life-saving care begins the moment we arrive, not when the patient reaches the hospital,” he explained.

He added that CareOne plans to expand the service across Rivers State within a year and integrate it with a digital patient management platform for faster triage and better coordination between field teams and hospitals.

“Our long-term vision is clear to make emergency response swift, inclusive, and lifesaving, one community at a time,” Ebitanmi stated.
