Banigo Redefines Constituency Service with Health Insurance-Based Medical Outreach

Senator Dr. Ipalibo Banigo, representing Rivers West Senatorial District and serving as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, has earned widespread commendation for her innovative approach to constituency service through a medical outreach anchored on health insurance.

The initiative in a post shared on Saturday, noted that it is transforming access to healthcare across rural communities in the district and setting a new standard for people-focused representation

The initiative, aptly tagged “Bringing Healthcare Home,” was launched in October 2024 under the Kingdom Mandate Initiative, in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

It has so far reached over 8,000 residents, including women, youths, children, and the elderly, offering free medical consultations, treatments, and medications at no cost to beneficiaries.

Targeting vulnerable groups, the programme aligns with the federal government’s push for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by reducing the financial barriers to accessing healthcare services in rural and underserved areas.

Community leaders, traditional rulers, and health workers have applauded the outreach, describing it as a forward-thinking model that merges national health insurance policy with grassroots implementation.

Many hailed Senator Banigo’s commitment to ensuring that healthcare reaches those who need it most, particularly in hard-to-reach communities.

Speaking on the impact of the intervention, several beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the senator’s efforts, noting that the outreach has brought essential medical services closer to their doorsteps and saved many families from avoidable health complications.

Observers across the district have described the initiative as a benchmark for constituency representation, praising Senator Banigo for redefining public service through a blend of policy innovation, compassion, and community engagement.

Through “Bringing Healthcare Home,” Senator Banigo continues to demonstrate her deep commitment to improving public health outcomes and ensuring that no one in Rivers West is left behind in the quest for accessible and affordable healthcare.
