CAF Picks Rabat For Super Eagles’ WC Playoff

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has designated Rabat, Morocco, as the location for the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s vital 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff match against Gabon.

The high-stakes fixture is scheduled for Thursday, November 13.

The Super Eagles qualified for the playoff after thrashing Benin Republic 4-0 in the last game of the world cup qualifier at home.

Victor Osimhen scored a hattrick with Frank Onyeka scoring on to make Super Eagles one of the best second places.

This confirmation concludes several weeks of uncertainty regarding the match location, which began when Morocco was initially named the host nation without specifying the city or stadium.

Veteran sports journalist Osasu Obayiuwana confirmed the choice on his X page on Wednesday, stating, “The Olympic Stadium in Rabat has been selected for the matches.”

The knockout phase will consist of three decisive matches: two semi-finals and one final. Nigeria will face Gabon in the first semi-final on November 13, followed by Cameroon taking on Congo DR in the second.

The victorious teams from these clashes will meet in the final on Sunday, November 16, with the winner earning a spot in the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The chosen venue, the Rabat Olympic Stadium, is recognised as one of Africa’s premier football facilities, having recently hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria, one of the continent’s most successful footballing nations, is determined to secure qualification for the global tournament once more.

The Super Eagles will be vying to join the expanded field for the next World Cup.
