Field visit

Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, has resumed field engagements with an inspection tour of key healthcare projects in Degema Local Government Area, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to improved healthcare access and service delivery across the state.

Dr. Oreh began the visit with an unscheduled assessment of the ongoing construction and upgrade works at the Zonal Hospital, Degema, where she reviewed progress made so far and interacted with on-site personnel.

According to the state commissioner for health X page on Thursday, the inspection, was necessary to ensure that timelines, quality of work and project specifications were being diligently followed to fast-track the hospital’s readiness for public use.

The Commissioner then moved to the Model Primary Healthcare Centre in Degema, where she held brief discussions with healthcare workers and examined operational data, including antenatal care attendance, skilled birth attendant–supervised deliveries, immunisation coverage, and nutrition support services.

She expressed satisfaction with some of the gains recorded but charged the facility’s management to intensify outreach and ensure that more residents, especially women and children, are reached with essential services.

Dr. Oreh emphasised that her return to field oversight signals a renewed drive to deliver on the state’s health agenda, assuring that no project or programme would be left unattended.

“Our duty is to be present, to supervise, and to ensure that healthcare truly works for our people,” she said, pledging continuous monitoring of facilities across all zones.

She reiterated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration remains focused on strengthening primary and secondary healthcare systems to deliver affordable, quality, and people-centred services for residents of Rivers State.
