‎Team Nigeria won 12 gold medals in Weightlifting, Badminton

Team Nigeria showcased an impressive performance in both weightlifting and badminton at the ANOCA ZONE III Games held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, yesterday, securing a total of 12 Gold medals, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal to conclude its participation in the regional competition.

‎In the weightlifting category, the three Nigerian athletes representing the nation experienced a remarkable Gold medal sweep. The event commenced with Emmanuel Inakedor, the reigning African Champion in the 71kg category, who swiftly overcame his competitors in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total events.

‎In the 79kg division, Ibrahim Rabiu, who also serves as the team’s coach, achieved victory in all three Gold medal events: Snatch, Jerk, and Total.

‎In the 110kg category, Adeyemi Vincent, another African Champion, completed the trio of Gold medal performances for Team Nigeria by securing 3 Gold medals across the Snatch, Clean and Jerk, and Total events.

‎In badminton, Team Nigeria continued its success by adding 3 more Gold medals, 1 silver, and 1 bronze to the 2 Gold medals earned on Tuesday in the men’s and women’s doubles events.

‎Shehu Aliyu triumphed over Fano Dosh from the Benin Republic with a 2-0 victory in the men’s singles, while Joseph Abel secured the bronze medal. In the women’s singles, an all-Nigeria final saw Dorcas Adedokan defeat Deborah Ukeh to claim the Gold medal.



‎In the mixed doubles, Shehu Aliyu and Deborah Ukeh overcame the host team from Burkina Faso in the semifinals before defeating their compatriots, Joseph Abel and Dorcas Adesokan, to win Gold in the final.

‎Ultimately, Team Nigeria concluded yesterday’s events with a total of 12 Gold medals, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal, clearly demonstrating its dominance in the region.
