Nigerian rapper and music executive, M.I Abaga, has opened up about his preference for raising his future children in Nigeria, citing the nation’s deep-rooted family values and strong sense of community as key reasons for his choice.
In a recent interview, the award-winning hip-hop artist expressed that Nigeria provides a more supportive and connected environment for parenting than many Western countries.
He highlighted how the communal nature of Nigerian society eases the challenges of child-rearing, as relatives and friends are often readily available to lend a hand.
He said, “There are a lot of things appealing about home, especially because we’re already ingrained in that system. There’s a lot of support as well. I feel it’s very difficult for parents here.

M.I also drew a comparison between life in Nigeria and abroad, particularly in the United States, where he noted that the demanding work culture and limited family presence can make parenting more challenging.
“But if you have family, now you have enough people that can stay at home and support you. But it’s not easy, man.”
While acknowledging that raising children overseas has its own appeal, the rapper stressed that Nigeria offers a stronger foundation for children to understand their heritage and identity before experiencing the world beyond.
Although he admitted he is not yet actively planning for a family, M.I emphasised that the close-knit nature of Nigerian society remains one of the country’s greatest strengths—especially when it comes to nurturing the next generation.
