“Seek Early Screening to Avoid Breast Cancer,” First Lady Urges Nigerian Women

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has encouraged women to make their health a top priority by carrying out regular breast self-examinations and seeking timely medical check-ups as part of activities marking the 2025 Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In a message released on Monday, Mrs Tinubu emphasised that detecting breast cancer early can make a crucial difference in treatment outcomes and survival rates.

She noted that self-awareness and routine screening are essential tools in combating the disease.

“As women, mothers, sisters, and daughters, our health must remain a priority. Early detection saves lives,” she stated, urging women to remain proactive about their wellbeing.

The First Lady also called on Nigerians to use the month-long campaign to show solidarity with breast cancer survivors and to help spread information that promotes healthier lifestyles and preventive care.

She added that collective effort was needed to strengthen awareness and reduce the impact of the disease on families and communities.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed globally every October, focuses on encouraging early diagnosis, supporting survivors, and highlighting the importance of access to screening and treatment.
