Niger Delta Forum Backs Tinubu’s Reforms, Seeks Inclusive Development

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s reform initiatives, while urging the Federal Government (FG) to prioritise inclusive development across the Niger Delta and the wider nation.

In a goodwill message marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary on Tuesday, the group, through its National Chairman, Ambassador Godknows Igali, congratulated Nigerians for sustaining democracy and applauded the South-South governors for their developmental strides.

Igali noted that the anniversary offered “a sober moment for reflection” on the nation’s progress and challenges. He praised Tinubu’s administration for tackling pressing national issues but stressed that urgent attention must be given to infrastructural renewal and economic growth in oil-producing communities.

“Of particular importance is the urgent need to redress the worsening infrastructure decay in the Niger Delta, the region from which the nation’s wealth is derived. The lingering neglect of vital projects such as the East-West Road, the Benin–Auchi Road, the Benin–Warri Road, and the revitalisation of the southern ports in Port Harcourt, Calabar, Onne, and Warri must be decisively addressed if Nigeria is to fully harness its economic potential, ” the National Chairman noted.

The forum emphasised that the full potential of Nigeria’s economy cannot be realised without addressing the persistent neglect of the region’s infrastructure.

While commending governors of Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Edo States for their leadership, PANDEF reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with both federal and state governments to ensure balanced development.

While speaking on the nation’s Independence day celebration, the statement noted, “PANDEF reaffirms its commitment to continue working with the Federal Government and the leadership of the Niger Delta states to ensure that our region and people play their rightful role in the affairs of the nation. “

PANDEF, a socio-political platform advocating for the interests of the South-South, reiterated that the prosperity of Nigeria is tied to justice, fairness, and inclusive governance.
