We’re Yet to See How Ibas Spent Our Funds – Sara-Igbe

Sara Igbe

Anabs Sara-Igbe, National Coordinator of the South-South Elders Forum and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, has raised concerns over the financial activities of the recently departed sole administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas, stating that the people of Rivers are yet to understand how Ibas managed the state’s funds during the six-month political crisis.

Speaking in an interview with Independent recently, Sara-Igbe described the return of Governor Siminalayi Fubara as a relief to the people. He said governance had come to a standstill under the interim leadership, with no visible projects or achievements attributed to Ibas. He urged federal anti-corruption agencies such as the EFCC and ICPC to investigate how the state’s resources were spent during that period.

Sara-Igbe called for unity between the governor and the Rivers State House of Assembly, urging lawmakers to avoid hostility and work in partnership to restore progress. He emphasized that peace and teamwork were essential for development, stressing that both factions in the political crisis had a common interest in the state’s growth.

He also dismissed calls from the Labour Party for an independent investigation by the governor, insisting that constitutionally empowered agencies should handle such matters.

Referencing the unconstitutional nature of the emergency rule, Sara-Igbe maintained that Rivers people are more interested in moving forward and restoring democratic governance. He called on the governor to focus on development, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment, as the state recovers from the political impasse.

Recall, Ibas had earlier rejected an assembly move to probe his six-months spending.
