Rivers Hoopers Set For Title Rematch as NBPL Phase Two Tips Off

Reigning Nigeria Basketball Premier League (NBPL) champions, Rivers Hoopers, will open Phase Two of the 2025 season with a blockbuster clash against Hoops & Read today, September 28, in Port Harcourt.

The fixture, scheduled for a 5 pm tip-off at the Indoor Basketball Court, #59 Niger Street, Port Harcourt Township, will reignite memories of last season’s championship showdown, where the Hoopers secured a commanding 71–54 victory to clinch their sixth league title.

According to the NBPL format, Phase Two brings together all teams from both groups in each conference, Atlantic and Savannah, for round-robin contests at a central venue.

The top four teams from each conference will then qualify for the playoffs. The playoffs will feature a knockout round, followed by the Final Four, where teams will compete in another round-robin series to determine the 2025 champions.

The Hoopers, nicknamed the KingsMen, will face a packed schedule following their opener. They will take on Kwara Falcons on September 30, Comets on October 1, and Lagos Legends on October 2 to wrap up their Phase Two fixtures.

Sunday’s lineup of games will also feature Lagos Legends against Comets at 2pm, setting the tone for what promises to be a fiercely competitive stage of the season.

With the KingsMen seeking to defend their crown and Hoops & Read aiming for revenge, all eyes will be on Port Harcourt as the battle for playoff spots intensifies.
