The Rivers State Commissioner of Police (CP), Olugbenga Adepoju has held a high-level strategic meeting with senior police officers in the state to review operations and establish new security strategies for the command.
Grace Iringe-koko, the police spokesperson, in a statement posted on her Facebook page on Saturday, said the gathering included Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Team Commanders.
Adepoju highlighted the command’s recent operational successes, which included the arrest of numerous suspects during raids on suspected criminal hideouts, the neutralization of two murder suspects, and the rescue of several kidnapped victims.
The police also reported the recovery of three illegal arms, 49 rounds of ammunition, and suspected stolen vehicles.
A central theme of the meeting was the demand for enhanced professionalism and discipline.
Adepoju firmly cautioned officers against misconduct, specifically listing offences such as extortion, incivility to the public, unlawful detention of suspects, and illegal duties like escorting land grabbers.

He emphasised that adhering to professional standards is vital for maintaining public trust and ensuring effective policing.
The session featured a series of training lectures designed to support this goal. Deputy Commissioner of Police Samuel Etaifo-Erale delivered a lecture on disciplinary procedures and processes, aimed at reinforcing accountability among senior officers.
In addition, counsellor Rita Bassey led a session on mental health, stressing the critical importance of officers’ well-being for effective service delivery.
To strengthen security, the Commissioner of Police issued several directives. These included intensifying visibility policing by increasing police presence across the state, holding regular stakeholder meetings to promote community engagement, and adopting intelligence-led policing to enhance community safety and guide operations.
He also directed increased training and retraining of officers to better equip them for emerging security challenges.
Adepoju commended the diligence and dedication of the command’s personnel and reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He urged the public to actively support police operations by promptly reporting suspicious activities.
