A person with disability in Rivers State, Mr Onyinye Amadi, has cried out for help following the destruction of his work tools by fire, allegedly caused by a power surge after electricity was restored in Ozuoba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Speaking during an interview with our correspondent after the incident on Wednesday, Mr Amadi said the event has left him and his family in trauma.
“PHED brought light in the middle of the night, and the power voltage was high. It burnt our things and our room, even others — at least five people are complaining about the same thing at Ozuoba. All my equipment in my photo studio — my video camera, my snapping cameras, up to five printing machines, my documents, and my lighting systems — was all burnt.”

Mr Amadi, who runs a photography business for his livelihood, appealed to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) to come to his aid urgently.
“I therefore plead with the authorities of PHED to look for a way they can help me. As a person with a disability, I cannot depend on street begging to feed my family. If they do not do that, we will see ourselves in court because this kind of thing has been happening. We cannot fold our hands because when they bring a bill, we pay — so they need to see what to do.”
The incident has raised renewed concerns about the safety and reliability of the power supply in the area.
