The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released updated figures on the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise.
In a statement on Monday, Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee said the commission is making significant progress in both online and in-person registrations.
Olumekun said as of Sunday, September 14, 2025, a total of 4,445,505 Nigerians had pre-registered online. He said the data shows a notable gender split, with female registrants at 2,304,211 (51.83%) and male registrants at 2,141,294 (48.17%).
Olumekun added that a significant majority of these registrants—65.79%—are young people between the ages of 18 and 34, with students making up 25.02% of the total.
He said the commission also provided combined figures for both online and in-person registrations completed as of Friday, September 12, 2025. According to him, the total stands at 509,929.
He said similar to the online data, the completed registrations show a higher number of females (54.94%) compared to males (45.06%).

Olumekun noted that young people aged 18 to 34 constitute 74.15% of those who have completed their registration, with students representing 38.54% of this group.
He said INEC announced that the online pre-registration for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) had ended on Monday, September 15.
Olumekun stated that the commission will now focus on physical, in-person registration at designated centres before moving the exercise to all 62 wards in the FCT from September 29 to October 8, 2025. He said this move aims to make registration more accessible to a broader population.
He said INEC has made the detailed registration data publicly available on its official website and other platforms, providing a transparent overview of the exercise’s progress.
