Rivers State Sole Administrator Receives Report on Local Government Election

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas says he has achieved the directive by President Bola Tinubu to restore peace and ensure to democratic governance in the state.

Retired Vice Admiral Ibas who spoke during the presentation of a report of the just-concluded local government elections to him by the Chairman, Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Dr. Mike Odey at Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday 12-09-25, promised that his administration would review the report and issue an official statement in due course.

“Let me on behalf of the people and government of Rivers State commend RSIEC, the Chairman and the members of the committee and all of the management of RSIEC for a job well done.

I think this commendation also flows not just from within Rivers State alone. We have also had commendations from lovers of Rivers State from within the country.

Yes, elections have been conducted in the past. Yes, elections have had its ups and downs. But for once, an election was conducted where nobody was harassed, where people went out freely to express themselves and to select whom they wanted as their leaders.”

Retired Vice Admiral Ibas also thanked the various security agencies that provided services during the 2025 local government elections for the professionalism which made easier for people to cast their votes for their preferred candidates.

Presenting the report, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Michael Odey, said the report covers the entire electoral process.

Dr Odey also commended the people of Rivers State for their cooperation and peaceful participation during the exercise, praying for the continued progress of the state.

Despite claims of widespread voter apathy, he stated that the conduct of the election and swearing-in of elected Chairmen and councillors across the state’s 23 local government areas of the state was a success.
