Okocha Denies NFF Presidency Interest

Super Eagles icon Jay-Jay Okocha has refuted claims suggesting he is interested in running for the presidency of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

In a statement shared on his official Instagram account, Okocha labeled the rumors as untrue and misleading. He took to his verified social media platforms to clarify the matter.

‎“Hello everyone, I want to take this opportunity to clarify that the news and posts circulating are false,” he stated.

‎He added, “I have not expressed any interest or spoken to anyone regarding Nigerian football or the position of NFF president,” Okocha explained.

‎The former Super Eagles captain mentioned that he is currently in Kigali, Rwanda, participating in the SportsBizAfrica conference. He urged the public to ignore the rumors and called on those disseminating false information to stop.

‎Okocha encouraged Nigerians to remain optimistic despite the ongoing challenges. “I understand it’s tough, but we are all in this together. God bless, and let’s stay strong,” he concluded.

‎The current NFF board, headed by Ibrahim Gusau, has faced criticism recently as the Super Eagles struggle to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

‎Nigeria’s recent 1-1 draw with South Africa has left their qualification hopes hanging by a thread, with the risk of missing the FIFA World Cup for the second consecutive time.

‎Jay-Jay Okocha is regarded as one of Nigeria’s greatest players and was part of the inaugural group that led the Super Eagles to the FIFA World Cup, where he and his teammates impressed the world at USA 94.
