NAPTIP Launches Anti-Trafficking Program in Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has officially inaugurated an Anti‑Trafficking and Violence Awareness Vanguard Club at Community Secondary School, Otuasega, located in Ogbia Local Government Area.

The event was led by Mr. Wariebi Sambo, Head of the Public Enlightenment Unit, who represented the State Acting Commander, Mr. Fadeware Timibiowe.

The NAPTIP team who visited the school on Thursday, to educate both students and teachers about the dangers of human trafficking, child abuse, and gender-based violence. They also formally launched the Vanguard Club, which aims to empower students to become proactive defenders against trafficking and violence in their community.

Mr. Sambo took the opportunity to explain the core functions of NAPTIP, various forms of human trafficking, and the steps students should take to report any suspicious activities or cases. He urged students to be vigilant, stressing that as members of the Vanguard Club, they have a responsibility to watch out for signs of trafficking and to raise awareness among their peers.

The principal of the school, Mr. Adu Oni-Okpoki, expressed appreciation for the Agency’s visit and promised that the school would serve as a strong partner and ambassador in the fight against human trafficking in Bayelsa State.

Several students also shared their gratitude, noting that the program helped them better understand the severe impacts trafficking has on individuals and society at large.
