Food Security: FG Pledges Support for AFGSAN

The Federal Government, FG, has pledged its support to the Amana Farmers and Grains Suppliers Association of Nigeria (AFGSAN) to enhance food security in line with the “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Segun Imohiosen, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Director of Information & Public Relations, disclosed this in a statement on SGF social media pages.

Imohiosen stated that the assurance was given by SGF George Akume during a courtesy visit by a high-level AFGSAN delegation. Led by its National President, Haruna Pambegua, the association met with the Akume in Abuja.

Akume acknowledged the association’s need for support to increase food production and assured them that the current administration is prepared to assist them. He further committed to presenting their requests directly to the President for the necessary backing.

Commending AFGSAN for its ongoing contributions to food security, he highlighted the government’s initiatives to revolutionise the agricultural sector.

Akume urged the association to help publicise these advancements in agriculture. In his remarks, Pambegua praised the Tinubu administration’s policies, stating they have positively impacted the lives of many Nigerians. He affirmed AFGSAN’s full support for the government and its commitment to contributing to sustainable food security.

Pambegua specifically requested government support, including the allocation of subsidised tractors, fertilisers, and other farm implements for its members.

He stated that this assistance would help them increase their capacity for producing, supplying, and delivering farm produce across the country. The meeting ended with a mutual understanding of collaboration to achieve the nation’s food security goals.
