The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a move into the second phase of its ongoing recruitment exercise, with 286,697 shortlisted candidates scheduled to take a Computer-Based Test (CBT) from September 14 to 21, 2025.
The announcement comes after an initial application process that began with a December 27, 2024, advertisement, which saw 573,523 applications submitted for 3,927 vacancies.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer for the Comptroller-General of Customs
Maiwada said the online CBT is designed to ensure a transparent, fair, and accessible selection process.
He said candidates can take the test from any location with reliable internet access, but must use a desktop or laptop computer equipped with a webcam. Mobile phones are not supported.
Maiwada emphasised strict guidelines for the test to prevent cheating and maintain the integrity of the process.
He said a facial verification will be performed at login, and candidates are advised to maintain a “neat appearance” to avoid issues.
According to him, the testing application is sensitive to noise and body movement, with warnings that excessive movement or background distractions could result in automatic logouts.
He said candidates are also prohibited from switching between windows during the exam, as this will be flagged as malpractice and may lead to disqualification.
Maiwada noted that to help candidates prepare, the NCS has scheduled a mandatory pre-test exercise two days before the main CBT.

He said the session is intended to familiarise applicants with the testing application. Separate links for the pre-test and the actual exam will be sent to all shortlisted candidates.
He also noted that applicants for the Superintendent Cadre (Level 8) will be invited for an additional CBT in a subsequent phase of the recruitment.
“This requirement does not apply to candidates for the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres”, Maiwada said. He reaffirmed NCS’s commitment to a merit-driven and transparent recruitment process.
Maiwada warned applicants to rely solely on official communication channels for updates and to be wary of fraudulent activities.
He stated that NCS will not request any form of payment or conduct recruitment activities on social media platforms.
