Public Gyms Are “Vibe Spots,” Not Workout Zones – Terry Apala

Terry Apala

Nigerian music artist Terry Apala has stirred controversy with his recent comments about public gyms, declaring that he would never allow his partner to work out in one.

Speaking during an interview on Echo Room, hosted by reality star Teddy A, the Apala Disco crooner claimed that many women frequent gyms not for fitness, but for attention and social media content.

“I will not allow my partner to go to the gym,” he said. “I was a member of iFitness VGC, so I’ve been there. I saw what was going down.”

According to Terry, his experience at multiple gyms, including one in Megamound Estate, revealed a pattern of behaviour he found troubling.

“Ladies nowadays are just going to the gym to vibe and do videos,” he explained. “They’re not there to actually work out.”

He went further, alleging that some women use the gym as a space to seduce men, while some men also show up specifically to scout for women.

“If they really want to work out, they won’t be focused on doing videos,” he added. “Girls go there to do all manner of things.”

While Terry acknowledged that a few women genuinely go to the gym for fitness, he insisted that the majority are there for the vibe, not the reps.

His comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with some agreeing and others accusing him of generalising and promoting stereotypes. Either way, Terry Apala has made it clear: his partner’s workouts won’t be happening in any public gym.
