Tambuwal Vows to Work for Tinubu’s Defeat in 2027 Election

Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has declared his firm commitment to ensuring President Bola Tinubu is not re-elected in 2027.

Tambuwal, who is a part of a recently formed opposition coalition, characterised the effort to unseat the current government as a “national consensus.”

“I am completely engaged in a process—one that is both democratic and legal—that, with God’s help, will result in the removal of this administration from power,” Tambuwal stated. “We will, with the help of God and the Nigerian people, remove these individuals from office.”

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives rejected claims that the coalition is a Northern-centric plot to remove the president.

To prove the nationwide nature of the movement, he highlighted that key figures like Peter Obi and Rauf Aregbesola are not from Northern Nigeria.

He argued that “a change of guards” was necessary in Aso Rock on May 29, 2027, and that this should be achieved through the constitutional democratic process.

Tambuwal criticised the Tinubu government for failing to deliver on its promises to the Nigerian people.

He also downplayed the notion that incumbency would make the president unbeatable. “It is not a foregone conclusion that he cannot lose in 2027,” Tambuwal said.

“Every effort to make it seem as though he is invincible—that Bola Tinubu cannot be defeated—is nonsense.”

He noted his belief that Tinubu is vulnerable and that he is working with other coalition leaders in the nation’s best interest. “This is not about Bola Tinubu. It is about the way he is managing the country,” he stated.

The opposition coalition, formed a few months ago, includes prominent political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Obi, Aregbesola, former Senate President David Mark, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

The group has pledged to remove Tinubu from office in 2027, a vow that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as insignificant.
