Super Eagles’ Slim Win Over Rwanda Boosts World Cup Hope

The Super Eagles secured a crucial 1-0 win against a determined Rwandan side, with a late goal from Tolu Arokodare of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

This victory was essential for Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, following a disappointing start to their campaign.

Playing at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, the Super Eagles controlled much of the match but struggled to capitalize on their opportunities.

Early in the game, a goal by star striker Victor Osimhen was disallowed for offside, denying Nigeria an early lead.

Osimhen’s match was cut short when he was substituted in the 33rd minute due to an injury.

He was replaced by Cyril Dessers of Panathinaikos.

Shortly after, Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi’s powerful shot was expertly saved by Rwanda’s goalkeeper, Fiacre Ntwari, who was a standout performer for his team.

Nigeria’s persistent attacks finally paid off when Arokodare broke the deadlock with a well-placed shot, giving his team the much-needed three points.

The win has renewed hope for the Super Eagles and their fans as they continue their journey toward World Cup qualification.

The Super Eagles currently sit third in Group C with 10 points, trailing Benin on 11 and South Africa on 16.

They will travel to face group leaders South Africa on Tuesday, knowing that another victory could lift them further up the table.

Uncertainty remains over the extent of Victor Osimhen’s injury and whether he will be fit for the must-win clash against Bafana Bafana.
