Nigeria’s Economy Stabilised, Attracting Global Interest, Tinubu Declares

President Bola Tinubu has announced that his administration’s economic reforms are yielding positive results, asserting that the country’s economy is now stable and has regained global respect.

In a statement on Wednesday, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy said he spoke at the State House while hosting His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Oladunni Olaoye, the Soun of Ogbomosoland, and other traditional rulers.

He said the “bleeding has stopped” and the “patient is alive.”

Tinubu attributed the country’s past economic challenges to years of neglect, corruption, and a lack of revenue.
He explained that his government was compelled to take bold actions like removing fuel subsidies and undertaking foreign exchange reforms.

The President noted that these difficult decisions, supported by the prayers and patience of Nigerians, have stabilised the economy.

He also highlighted the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a key achievement, stating that it ensures no student drops out of school due to poverty.

The President emphasised that education is the “greatest weapon” against poverty and his administration remains committed to aggressive infrastructure development.

In his remarks, Oba Ghandi Olaoye commended the President for his courage in implementing the reforms, stating that only a bold leader could have achieved such strides.

The Soun noted that the removal of fuel subsidy and the foreign exchange reforms were the right decisions and praised NELFUND for making it easier for students to pursue their education.

The monarch also thanked the President for the dualization of the Oyo-Ogbomosho Road, which he said had been abandoned for decades and would boost economic activities in the region.

He appealed for federal intervention in water and power supply, the upgrading of Ogbomoso’s General Hospital, and the establishment of a research institute for the area’s famous agricultural produce.

The President assured the Soun that he would engage the relevant ministers to address the requests.

The Soun was accompanied by other traditional leaders and prominent Ogbomoso indigenes, including Chief Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication.
