Court Orders DNA Test for Mohbad’s Son, Liam Aloba

A Magistrate Court sitting in Ikorodu, Lagos State on Tuesday, September 2, has ordered a DNA test to be conducted on Liam Aloba, the son of late Nigerian singer Mohbad (Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba), to determine his biological paternity.

The order was issued following an application filed by Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s father, who has consistently demanded clarity on the child’s lineage amid ongoing investigations into his son’s death. The application was filed under Order 8 Rules 1 and 8 of the Family Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure Rules) 2012 and Section 63(1) of the Magistrate Courts (Civil Procedure) Rules 2009.

The respondents in the case are Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, Mohbad’s widow, and the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, where the test is scheduled to be conducted. Sample collection is expected to take place at the Military Hospital in Yaba, where Mohbad’s remains are currently being held pending autopsy and toxicology reports.

Joseph Aloba, represented by his counsel Augustine Adedemola, argued that the DNA test is essential not only for establishing paternity but also for ensuring transparency in the broader investigation surrounding Mohbad’s death.

The court’s decision has reignited public debate, with many Nigerians expressing mixed reactions online, some supporting the move for clarity, while others criticize the timing and emotional toll on the grieving family.

As the legal process unfolds, the nation continues to seek answers in the tragic and controversial passing of one of its most promising musical talents.
