Veteran Nigerian television host Morayo Afolabi-Brown has shared a deeply personal account of her battle with depression and suicidal thoughts, revealing the emotional toll of feeling stuck in her career. In a candid interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Morayo disclosed that her mental health struggles intensified during her final years as host of TVC’s Your View, a role she held for 12 years.
“I was depressed. At a point, I was suicidal. I walked on the express, hoping a car would hit me. It was that bad,” she confessed.
Morayo explained that although she had long considered leaving the show, she lacked clarity on how to move forward. It wasn’t until the show marked its 10th anniversary that she began to feel a strong urge to transition to a new phase in her life.

“It was when we [TVC] were ten years that I knew that it was time [for me] to go to the next thing. I have been harbouring that thought for a while but I didn’t know how to go about it. But last year, I got that light-bulb moment,” she said.
Her revelation has sparked conversations around mental health in the media industry, especially for women navigating high-pressure roles in public-facing careers. Morayo’s decision to step down from Your View marks the end of a significant chapter, and her openness is being praised as a courageous move that may inspire others facing similar internal battles.
