PDP To Inaugurate Convention Committee On September 2

PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the inauguration date for its 110-member National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC).

The Port City News earlier reported that the party had unveiled the committee, expecting to allocate the various National Working Committee positions to the geopolitical zones, which the National Executive Committee will review and approve.

The party, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Thursday, August 28, said the inauguration will take place on September 2 at the NEC Hall of the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja at 12 noon.

Ologunagba said the decision follows the approval given by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

He noted that the committee is tasked with organising the PDP’s 2025 Elective National Convention, which is scheduled to be held in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, from November 15 through 16, 2025.

Leading the committee will be Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, who will serve as the Chairman.

He will be supported by Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State as Vice Chairman and Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State as Secretary.

Ologunagba urged all leaders and members to remain united and committed to ensuring the convention’s success.

Also, the party zoned its ticket for the 2027 presidential election to the South to beat the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and President Bola Tinubu.

Aside from the ticket zoning, PDP retained its existing zoning arrangement that has the North producing the national chairman, and confirmed Umar Damagum as chairman.

Damagum has been serving as the acting national chairman and substantive national chairman until December 2025.

This decision has been commended by the party’s members, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC), through its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi said it was a plot to lure former President Goodluck Jonathan, Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers State and Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP).
