Preparations are underway for the wedding of Halima Amira Junaid, granddaughter of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who is set to marry Walid Shehu Mauzu in Kaduna State on August 30, 2025.
Halima is the daughter of Nana Hadiza, one of Buhari’s daughters from a previous marriage. Hadiza is now the third wife of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), whom she married a few years ago. Before that, she was married to Captain Junaid Abdullahi, with whom she had six children.
The wedding fatiha will be accompanied by a series of elegant pre-wedding events, including a bridal soiree, Kamu ceremony, and a grand dinner, all expected to draw attention from Nigeria’s elite social circles.

However, the celebrations have not been without controversy. Several members of the former first family were notably absent from the festivities, sparking speculation and online chatter. Some netizens questioned the timing of the wedding, given that Buhari passed away on July 13, 2025, just weeks before the ceremony.
Despite the mixed reactions, Halima and Walid’s union is being celebrated by many who admire the couple’s grace and the family’s legacy. As the wedding date approaches, Kaduna is expected to host a high-profile gathering of dignitaries, politicians, and celebrities.
