Singer Made Kuti Claps Back at Troll Over Inter-Tribal Marriage”

Afrobeat star and multi-instrumentalist, Made Kuti, has responded with grace and intellect after an X user(Formerly Twitter) hurled a tribal insult at him for marrying outside the Yoruba ethnic group.

The online critic had posted a picture of the musician, branding him “a foolish Yoruba man” for marrying an Igbo woman and going as far as using derogatory terms to describe his wife’s heritage. The post sparked outrage among fans, but Made chose not to respond with anger.

Instead, the grandson of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti said he only felt pity for such divisive thinking. He reminded Nigerians that some of Africa’s greatest leaders, including his grandfather, championed unity and collective progress over tribal rivalries.

“Every one of our great African leaders believed in the importance of African unity because they had faith in the potential of our people to rise intellectually above the structures and limits set by colonial regimes and miseducation,” he wrote.

Calling ethnic superiority or inferiority a “slave mentality,” Made urged young Africans to read widely and educate themselves through the works and philosophies of visionaries such as Kwame Nkrumah, Patrice Lumumba, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Fela Kuti, and Thomas Sankara.

According to him, he decided to address the matter publicly because he has observed similar hateful posts for some time and believes silence would only encourage them.

For Made, love and unity remain stronger than prejudice—and in true Kuti fashion, he used wisdom and history to counter hate.
