Beneficiaries of the health insurance scheme of Rivers State Government, which it provides through the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP), have applauded the state government for the introduction and functionality of the programme, saying that RIVCHPP has positively impacted their lives and helped to improve the health of their families.
The beneficiaries who shared their minds at Oghale Eleme during a sensitisation/feedback meeting of the Eleme Local Government Area enrollees of RIVCHPP narrated how they were advised against registering with RIVCHPP by sceptics who described it as a fraudulent project that would not last the test of time.
The excited beneficiaries said that after enrolment, the care and attention given to them at the different health facilities they are assigned to have been topnotch, advising other residents of the state to come on board the RIVCHPP programme for better access to healthcare services for themselves and their children without suffering any form of payments for drugs, treatments, or services of different types.
Some of the respondents, whose children are enrolled on the RIVCHPP scheme, are Hannah Israel Gomba, Katie Benjamin Sakpe, whose children access care at Alode Health Centre, and Charity Ngbowa, who all spoke in praise of how enrolling on RIVCHPP’s health insurance scheme has been beneficial to them and their families, and how it has helped to douse the effects of the hard times.

Earlier in her speech at the meeting, the Executive Secretary of RIVCHPP, Dr. Vetty Agala reiterated that the office found out that citizens and residents of Eleme Local Government Area did not embrace the programme at the start, despite the numerous benefits, urging those who are yet to register in the area to come and register as to be part of the people that would benefit from RIVCHPP.
Dr. Agala clarified that what those who are yet to register need is to provide their National Identification Number (NIN) and pay a premium of #15,000, for those who are not vulnerable, to enjoy the same seamless health packages RIVCHPP provides.
The Executive Secretary of RIVCHPP then used the opportunity to solicit the support of the Eleme Local Government Area Administrator in the enrolment of more lives into RIVCHPP’s programmes, even as she is to assist the people with the registration of their national identification numbers for ease of registration.
At the town hall meeting were the Senior Special Assistant to the Administrator of Rivers State on Health, Prof. Chituru G Orlunwene, the Administrator of Eleme Local Government Area, Dr. Gloria Obo Dibiah, representatives of Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), stakeholders, community leaders, and enrollees of RIVCHPP.
The meeting also featured health outreach and talks.
