NOA Holds Roundtable Discussion on Effective Citizens Participation in Elections

The National Orientation Agency has organized a roundtable discussion and Sensitization on effective citizens participation in the forthcoming Local Government Election in Rivers State.

Speaking at the event, the Rivers State Director of NOA, Dr. Edward Banigo said the success of any election depends on a well informed and sufficiently mobilized citizenry.

He noted that the NOA in Rivers State is at the forefront of awareness creation and social mobilization to sensitize and galvanize the people of the State to actively participate in the August 30th local government elections.

“You will agree with me that this responsibility is enormous and requires the support and cooperation of all to accomplish.”

“This meeting provides an opportunity for us all to share ideas on how to ensure credible, free, fair and peaceful elections come 30 August 2025.”

Dr. Banigo urged Rivers People to shun all forms of violence and exercise their civic right to ensure that democratic governance at the local level is restored

Also speaking at the event, the Rivers State commissioner of Police, CP Olubenga Adepoju represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Okoro Ikechukwu reassured Rivers People of the readiness of the police to maintain law and order before, during and after the local government elections.

The Representative of the Rivers State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corp, Chief Route Commander Sunday Ujoh also pledged the readiness of the FRSC to provide support towards ensuring a hitch free local government election.

The Rivers State Council of the Trade Union Congress who were represented by Comrade Joe Elijah on his part called on market women, youths and every lover of democracy to participate fully by coming out enmasse to vote during the election.

The Roundtable meeting which had attendance representatives from different civil society groups, security agencies and the media had questions and answer sessions on the importance of citizen awareness and it’s role in massive participation in Electoral matters
