Ogoni Youths Urged to Rally Behind New HYPREP BOT

Ogoni youths have been advised to support the newly inaugurated Board of Trustees of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) and resist attempts to create disunity.

Community leader and peace advocate, Mr. Felix Eredor-Nwako, made the appeal while commending President Bola Tinubu for appointing qualified Ogoni sons to the board.

He stressed that the new trustees should be judged by their competence and performance rather than by character attacks.

“No one should be permitted to create discord among them. They ought to unite behind the board and management, providing the necessary support to enable them to deliver the best results for us. Had he not received support from the previous administration, he would not have progressed at all,” he said.

“Therefore, let’s also provide some assistance to our brothers who are currently there. They are similar to extroverted individuals. We understand that we cannot evaluate them until they have had the chance to demonstrate their abilities.”

Reacting to claims that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, influenced the appointments for political advantage, Eredor-Nwako dismissed the allegations as baseless.

He urged critics to respect the process and remember that leadership opportunities could come their way in future.

The peace advocate also encouraged the board to sustain existing initiatives, particularly programmes that expose Ogoni youths to international training and capacity development.
