Ex-Presidential Aspirant Says Nigeria Needs Jonathan

A former presidential hopeful under the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Mathias Tsado, has called on allies of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to encourage him to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Tsado, who previously ran for president on the platform of the Liberation Movement in 2019, made the appeal during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday.

He maintained that Jonathan’s return would provide Nigeria with a credible path out of its worsening economic and security difficulties.

“In 2027, we need him back. This goes beyond politics, it’s about rescuing Nigeria. Jonathan has the experience, the patience, and the foresight required to steer this nation back on course,” Tsado stated.

He argued that Jonathan’s period in office laid the foundation for democratic reforms and inclusiveness, adding that many Nigerians still view him as a figure capable of uniting the country.

Tsado urged Jonathan’s close associates to rally around him with a common message, insisting that the nation was at a turning point.

“Those within his circle should impress it upon him. At this moment, Nigeria requires his leadership more than ever. His calm style of governance and clear vision can ease political tensions and revive the economy,” he said.

His remarks come at a time when discussions are intensifying over possible contenders for the 2027 presidential race. Although Jonathan has not expressed any interest, Tsado maintained that the former president remains the most reliable option for national renewal.
