The National Youth Council of Ogoni People (NYCOP) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) appointments while demanding accountability for a missing $100 million fund.
Rising from an emergency congress, the group’s President, Raymond Marcus, expressed confidence in the leadership of Nwika Deeyah, a former member of the House of Representatives, who was named Chairman of the Governing Council and Board of Trustees BoT.
According to him, Deeyah’s appointment reflects the hopes of the Ogoni people and the wider Nigerian society.
“NYCOP wholeheartedly endorses the President’s appointments of the Governing Council and BoT members of HYPREP,” the communiqué stated.

The youth body urged the Federal Government to continue funding the clean-up project and consider transforming it into a full-fledged government agency for greater efficiency.
It also commended Tinubu for other initiatives in Ogoniland, including the Federal University of Environmental Technology, the Bonny–Bodo Road, the East–West Road (Eleme axis), and the establishment of a dialogue platform with the Ogoni people.
As part of its resolutions, NYCOP announced the suspension of two of its members over alleged misconduct.
It further gave former BoT Chairman, Mike Nwialeghi, a seven-day ultimatum to account for a $100 million HYPREP fund investment, warning of legal steps if he failed to provide clarification.
Deeyah, the new BoT head, previously served in the Rivers State House of Assembly and now leads Kagote, an influential Ogoni socio-cultural group.
