President Bola Tinubu has greenlit the immediate release of N16.7 billion to rebuild the Mokwa Bridge in Niger State, which was destroyed by flooding in May of this year.
The announcement was made in Abakaliki by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, after a meeting with the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.
Idris is part of a federal government delegation on a tour of projects and citizen engagements in the South-East region.
He emphasised that the swift approval demonstrates the administration’s commitment to addressing urgent infrastructural needs. The funding will cover the reconstruction of the 10-span bridge.
Idris also commended Umahi’s prompt response to the disaster, noting that the Works Minister dispatched experts to assess the damage soon after the flood occurred.
However, Umahi lauded Tinubu as a compassionate and attentive leader dedicated to solving citizens’ problems.
Umahi added that the latest round of infrastructure approvals spans all of Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, including the reconstruction of a five-span bridge in Wukari, Taraba State, as well as repairs on the Lokoja, Jebba, and Keffi bridges, and several others in Edo and Kebbi states.

This approval came after the Federal Government (FG) gave its final nod to the completion of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway. The government reiterated its dedication to finishing the 61-kilometer project in Enugu State on schedule.
According to Idris, the project is a clear demonstration of the administration’s commitment to completing major road networks across the country for the welfare of its citizens.
He emphasised that up-to-date road infrastructure is crucial for economic development, enhanced safety, and overall citizen well-being. The ₦100.8 billion dual carriageway is being constructed by CGC Nigeria Limited.
Engineer Tony Mbiko, the Director of Highways for the Southeast, reported that the section leading towards Enugu is already finished, with work continuing on the remaining parts of the road.
