D’Tigers Dominate Tunisia in Afrobasket Showdown

Nigeria’s men’s national basketball team, the D’Tigers, secured a commanding victory against the reigning champions, Tunisia, with a final score of 87-66 at the 2025 Afrobasket tournament.

From the start, the D’Tigers took control, opening the game with a 10-0 run. Houston Rockets standout Josh Okogie was the driving force behind the team’s relentless pace at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda in Angola’s capital.

Nigeria led throughout the match, finishing the first quarter with a 29-16 advantage and extending their lead to 48-33 by halftime.

The third quarter ended with Nigeria ahead 68-47, and they sealed the win decisively in the final quarter, beating the “Eagles of Carthage” by a 21-point margin.

Okogie had a historic performance, scoring a game-high 33 points—the most by a Nigerian player since 2021.
The team’s lineup also featured key players such as Ike Nwamu, Caleb Agada, Talib Zanna, and Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu.

This win follows a 77-59 victory over Madagascar earlier in the week, placing Nigeria at the top of Group B.
Their next challenge is against Cameroon on Sunday, a game that will determine their seeding for the upcoming knockout stage.

The D’Tigers, who last won the FIBA Afrobasket title in 2015 and have finished as runners-up three times, are looking to build on their momentum.

They will be inspired by the D’Tigress, Nigeria’s women’s team, who recently won their fifth consecutive Women’s Afrobasket title.
