Customs, FIRS, NSW Collaborate for 2026 Project Launch

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is working closely with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the National Single Window (NSW) Secretariat to finalize the implementation of the National Single Window Project, with a target operational date set for the first quarter of 2026.

NCS in a statement on its X page on Wednesday said the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, hosted a high-level meeting with the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Dr Zacch Adedeji, and the Director of the NSW Project, Tola Fakolade, at the NCS Headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting was held to review the project’s progress and set a clear timeline for its operational launch.

Adeniyi stressed that the National Single Window is a “transformational initiative” designed to modernize Nigeria’s trade ecosystem by fostering seamless collaboration among government agencies.

He stated that the project’s success is dependent on effective teamwork and a unified approach to serving the trading community with greater efficiency and transparency.

Launched in April 2024 by President Bola Tinubu, the NSW is a digital platform that will connect all government agencies involved in trade.

It is expected to reduce bureaucratic obstacles, shorten the time it takes to clear cargo, lower operational costs for businesses, and enhance Nigeria’s global trade competitiveness.

Adedeji of the FIRS pledged his agency’s full commitment to the project, noting that it will improve compliance and revenue generation.

Fakolade urged all participating agencies to meet their integration deadlines to ensure the Q1 2026 launch remains on schedule.

The meeting ended with a mutual agreement to increase technical integration and maintain open communication to keep stakeholders informed of the project’s progress.
