Police Arrest 7 Over Murder of Barrister Bright Owhor, Recover Weapons, Stolen Vehicles

The Rivers State Police Command has announced the arrest of seven suspects in connection with the murder of Barrister Bright Owhor, who was gunned down by unknown assailants on July 6, 2025, in Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Command disclosed that operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit swung into action following the incident, deploying intelligence and technical surveillance over a ten-day period to track down the perpetrators.

The arrested suspects are: Prince Samuel (30 years) – armed operative, Daniel Godwin (25 years) – getaway vehicle driver, Henry Peter (24 years) – arms supplier and the individual who fired the fatal shot, Godfrey Emmanuel a.k.a. Ibu (30 years) – gang leader, Chukwu Nneji (34 years), Justice Dimkpa (27 years), Promise Wikere (22 years) – handler of stolen vehicles.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to being members of the Deygbam Secret Cult Group, and admitted their involvement in Barrister Owhor’s murder.

They also confessed to withdrawing money from the victim’s bank account and participating in recent cult-related clashes between the BS and G12 Deygbam factions in Diobu, Port Harcourt.

Items recovered from the suspects include: One MTN SIM card, four locally made pistols, seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, two live cartridges, one mini bus, one Toyota Camry.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, commended the swift and professional work of the operatives, describing the arrests as part of the Command’s broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks and restore public confidence in law enforcement.

He assured residents of Rivers State that the Police Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property, and will not relent in its efforts to bring criminals to justice.
